Welcome Spring Open House - April 7

Tulips bloom on the Museum grounds

Join us for the next  free Museum open house on Sunday, April 7 from 1pm-5pm. Come by for quick tours of the Museum house, learn about our plans for 10A, and we'll have hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, and bubbles available! This is a FREE event, you do not need to pre-register and tickets are not required.

Did you know that hula hooping is back in style? The large plastic rings popularized by Wham-O toys in the late 1950s are experiencing a resurgence. Want to learn more? Check out this article from the Smithsonian Magazine or learn about the woman who was written out of hula hoop history.

A vintage advertisement from Wham-O toys claims the hula hoop is back! Date unkown.

Need a refresher on technique? Here's a vintage film from the Wham-O company.  Or better yet, come by the Museum open house on the 7th at 1:30pm or 3:30pm to watch a short demo by Greenbelter Susan Harris who is using her vlog to document her progress with this fun pastime! Many thanks to Susan for sharing her expertise!

Also happening on April 7:

An Artful Afternoon - Create paper cut outs inspired by Henri Matisse with artist Barbara Combs. This activity will take place 1-3pm in the Community Center Ground Floor East space. The same activity will be offered on April 14 at the Springhill Lake Rec Center. For more information about times/locations and to sign up, click here to be taken to the Greenbelt Recreation Department.
