Your visit will begin at the Community Center with a 10-minute film about the history of Greenbelt. The tour includes a 30 to 45-minute outdoor walking tour, a visit to an original restored home furnished with artifacts from the everyday life of the Great Depression and World War II (including a gift shop), and an optional visit to an interpretive exhibit in the Community Center. Groups larger than 10 people will be divided into smaller groups. Because the tour does involve some walking outdoors, if there is anyone in your group who is not ambulatory or is not able to walk 1/2 mile, please notify the museum as soon as possible, for alternative tour arrangements. Walking tours are conducted in all weather conditions except thunderstorms. Please remind participants to dress appropriately for the weather. Cost The cost of the tour is $5/person, due on the tour date. If you require an invoice, please contact staff in advance. Parking Free parking is available at the Community Center. Busses may park behind the Greenbelt Public Library. Dining and Other Facilities Roosevelt Center, Historic Greenbelt’s small commercial area, provides several options for dining including the New Deal Cafe, a cooperatively owned business; Beijing, a Chinese restaurant; Generous Joe’s Deli; and Chef Lou’s Desserts. The town center also boasts a large screen movie theater (still in operation), Pleasant Touch (a day spa), and the Greenbelt Co-op Grocery Store, another cooperatively run business. Restroom facilities are available in the Community Center. Hours Special tours may be scheduled from 10am-5pm any day of the week. The historic house is open for guided tours on Sundays from 1pm-5pm, and by special appointment at other times. The Community Center Exhibit Gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 9am-9pm and Sunday from 9am-7pm. To schedule a tour or make further inquiries, please call Megan Searing Young, Education/Volunteer Coordinator, at 240-542-2064, or e-mail greenbeltmuseum@gmail.com. Thank you for your interest. |
